As kind of a follow-up to yesterday’s post (and today’s re-post since yesterday’s post disappeared)… I read this from Michelle Malkin’s site:
On Wednesday, wielding his olive branch like a schoolmarm’s ruler, Sen. McCain told conservatives to “calm down.” My advice is exactly the opposite: Get fired up.
Some on the Right advise their readers and listeners to vote Democrat or sit home. My advice is exactly the opposite: Get off the couch and walk the walk for conservative candidates and officeholders who need all the help they can get defending free markets, free minds, and secure borders—no matter who takes the White House in November.
Lately Michelle Malkin has been another whose attitude seems to mimic Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingram and others. But perhaps Michelle has seemed to settle herself down somewhat and let reason gain a little more control than passion.
I am not sure that “fired up” is what we should do… I like the term vigilant. Why do I say that? Remember what conservatives did when the McCain-Kennedy shamnesty was uncovered? Those who were determined to stand for American values and protecting American citizens began launching an all out attack on the measure. Lets assume for sake of argument that McCain was being a liberal during this time and sided with the “open borders” crowd. The massive onslaught by rational and reasonable thinking individuals made their outrage known in specific terms. Congress was flooded with phone calls against the measure. The White House equally inundated with calls, emails and faxes. The “open borders” crowd was forced to back down and the measure was defeated… even after trying to resuscitate it. It was not those in Congress who came to the rescue per se. It was those who bowed to the pressure put on them by an overwhelming majority in this country.
Americans got their attention. And it was Americans that defeated the shamnesty bill. Now, assuming that McCain is truthful in saying he learned his lesson… and assuming he wins the White House, we need to ensure that we hold him to his commitments. Build the fence… all of it… every last inch of it. Secure the borders first… make sure that all the governors of border states certify that the job gets done. Make sure our Congressmen hold him to his commitments.
Don’t sit and wait for the fence to get built. It won’t be finished under the Bush administration or a McCain administration or an Obama or Hillary Clinton administration.
Well we know Bush will not build it… and it is a safe bet that Obama nor Hillary will either. But McCain has said he will. We need to make him follow through, should he win as President. Let’s keep the pressure up and make sure this next President listens to all the people and lets make sure that our government act appropriately.
