It seems that CNN may be getting a good swift kick in the butt from HOT (the predominant Israeli cable/satellite provider) shortly. The cable news network is up for renewal and negotiations don’t seem to be getting anywhere. So by the end of the month CNN may get yanked by its coax. This will probably not come as a disappointment to a vocal segment of the Israeli viewing public that views the cable network’s coverage of Israel and the Middle East as biased against the Jewish state. HOT claims that the sole holdup is over price. The British Broadcasting Corp., Sky News, Fox News and Al-Jazeera all charge less for their signal than does CNN. This is especially bad news for CNN as some have viewed the news giant as declining in recent years and that Fox News has taken the lead in cable news.
But if the vocal two-thirds of Israel are not excited about CNN, just wait until they hear their replacement… Al-Jazeera English. What are these guys thinking? Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire! This Arabic version of Al-Jazeera is seen as “Terror TV” by most Israelis.
Even though CNN may bite the dust with HOT it will still be available through their competitor “Yes Television”.
